FADE IN:

INT. STAIR CASE - DAY

FOOTSTEPS can he heard.

JOHN - early 20's - enters the frame. He treks up the staircase. His head is down and a depressed looks is plastered across his face. Every step he takes seems to take a lot out of him.

John breaths out heavily as he reaches the top of the stairs.

INT. HALLWAY - DAY

The hallway is bland.

track: we move backwards round a corner as john walks towards us.

As john walks round the corner a MAN pops his head out of a door.

MAN

Morning, John.

JOHN

(Grunt)

Yeah.

INT. meeting room - day

John enters the room.

The majority of the room is taken up by a large table. Four smart looking men sit around the table.

As John enters the businessman suddenly stop talking and there is silence as John takes a seat at the table. John seems slightly embarrassed.

john

Sorry.

BUSINESSMAN 1 begins the meeting.

BUSINESSMAN 1

Okay then, lets get started.

BUSINESSMAN 3:

Well yes the basic...

The voices of the businessmen start to fade out as John drifts into a day dream. His eyes slowly shut.

fade in:

ext. WOODLAND - DAY

John suddenly wakes in a woodland area. He laying in the middle of a clearing which is surrounded by trees.

POV: John slowly gets to his feet and takes a look around at his surroundings.

A line made of sticks and leaves stretches across the clearing. John see's this line and cautiously makes his way towards it.

OVER THE SHOULDER: john approaches the line.

Suddenly. DARKNESS.

CUT TO BLACK:

FADE IN:

INT. meeting room - day

POV: Lifting his head, John sees all four of the businessmen LOOKING AT HIM at John.

BUSINESSMAN 1

Are you okay?

John looks tired as well as slightly embarrassed.

JOHN

Yeah fine. Sorry.

BUSINESSMAN 1

(Nodding)

Okay then. Lets carry on.

BUSINESSMAN 2 smiles and continues to speak.

BUSINESSMAN 2

Our customer loyalty is higher than ever...

VOICES fade away and john begins to close his eyes again.

CUT TO:

EXT. FOREST - DAY

John approaches the line.

TRACK: along the line. john is standing at the edge of it.

John cautiously lifts his left hand across the line. A CRACKLE.

A montage of images appear accompanied by a CREEPY SOUND.

Before we know it, John's hand is jolted away from the line.

He collapses onto his knees.

Shocked, John looks down at his hand. It has a burn mark on it. He gets back up and stares at the line.

After a BEAT John shouts out in anger and charges at the line.

John desperately tries to get across the line but an invisible force field seems to be holding him back.

He manages to push his left arm through the barrier and over the line.

We cut away to the trees and when we return to john most of his body has past the barrier.

Only Johns legs are yet to be pulled through. He musters together all of his strength and pulls his legs and feet through. He collapses onto the dirty floor. He has crossed the line.

Suddenly things start to change. Day turns to dusk and the previous frown John had has been reversed into a smile. In fact, John can't stop grinning.

He jumps to his feet. Throws his arms into the air. Looks up into the sky.

JOHN

Yes! Yes!

FADE OUT TO Black:

CUT TO:

INT. MEETING ROOM - DAY

Again all four businessman are staring at John but this time he smiles back at them.

John jumps to his feet knocking over the chair he was sitting on.

INT. HALLWAY - DAY

As we TRACK John back through the hallway. The man sticks his head out of his office again.

MAN

John, could you do me a favor?

JOHN

(Cheerful)

Bye.

John continues walking and exits the frame. The man is stunned.

INT. STAIR CASE - DAY

John approaches the staircase. As he takes the first step, his heel twists and john falls forward. He hits his head on the banister and rolls down the rest of the stairs.

Silence.

An empty staircase.

A blood dripping from the banister.
